Leitis in Waiting is a feature documentary about Joey Mataele and the Tonga leitis, an intrepid group of gender and sexual minorities fighting a rising tide of religious fundamentalism in their South Pacific Kingdom. With humor and grace, this emotional story reveals what it means to be different in a society ruled by tradition, and what it takes to be accepted without forsaking who you are.

At the heart of the film is the leitis' commitment to talanoa, a Pacific approach to conflict and reconciliation that involves the sharing of truths in communal dialogue.

In partnership with the Tonga Leitis Association and Pacific Sexual and Gender Diversity Network, the film's producers are seeking opportunities to collaborate with local, national, and international organizations interested in using talanoa-style screening events to support community building and advocacy efforts that promote inclusion, equality, & human rights for all.
